65 KM/H winds expected until Aidiladha


KUALA LUMPUR: Heavy rains and strong wind with a speed of 65 km/h or are expected to occur until the second day of Aidiladha in Kelantan and Terengganu.

Principal Assistant Director of the Weather Forecast Centre of the Meteorological Department, Amirzudi Hashim, said the weather, termed a tropical depression, would result in choppy seas with waves reaching as high as 3.5 metres.

"As a result, the water level at the beaches will also rise by 0.5 metre compared with the normal level," he said when contacted by Bernama, here Monday.

He said the tropical depression was caused by strong winds with a speed of 45 km/h forming in the South China Sea located east of peninsular Malaysia at coordinates 4.0 north, 106.0 east.

The wind speed during normal weather is below 35 km/h. The department also issued a warning that a category two storm and choppy seas were expected in the Condore waters with westerly winds of 50 to 60 km/h and waves of up to 4.5 metres high until Tuesday.

In addition, a category one storm and choppy seas is expected in Samui (Kelantan and Terengganu), Reef North, LayangLayang, Palawan and Kudat in north Sabah, with a wind speed of 40 to 50 km/h and waves of up to 3.5 metres high until Wednesday.

Storms and lightning are also expected to continue until this afternoon in the waters off Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and the West Coast of Sabah.

This may result in strong winds of up to 40 km/h and waves of up to 2.5 metres high which would be dangerous for small boats. - Bernama
